You read about these things in the business magazines but you just don’t believe it until it happens to you.  Your company cuts your job to outsource to India.  And they have the audacity to ask you to train your replacements.  (Did I say “ask”?  I meant coerce under threat of getting no severance pay.)  

Then when you go job hunting, you learn you have to retrain for something else because the jobs you formerly did have disappeared.  Welcome to the global economy.

When it happened to me, my severance ran out soon enough. Unemployment only covered about 40% of my bills. I took temp work, but still fell behind in payments. To get a good job again I would have to retrain.  But the bills got ahead of me.  With bad credit, where would the money for retraining magically come from?
